To recap: I took Windows off my machine and installed Fedora 7 and MythTV.
Of course, the MyHD MDP-120 doesn't work in Linux, so I bought (1) an
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-950.
Capture seems to work, but I can't watch HDTV. Video card is GeForce 3Ti
200, so I bought (2) GeForce 6200, which may have turned out to be a
mistake, since I still can't watch HDTV.
Seems the CPU is too slow to make up for the lack of hardware-assisted
MPEG playback. I upgraded my 1.7GHz CPU to (3) a 2.53GHz Pentium 4. I
still can't watch HDTV. I overclocked to 2.77GHz. Better, but not quite.
But now, I think something's amiss. xvinfo says my display isn't detected,
even though 3D games do work.
A pointer to info on how to ensure xvcd is working properly would be most
appreciated, or information on a cheap hardware assist for MPEG2 video
playback (GeForce 4MX perhaps?) greatly appreciated. And I might be
selling a nearly-new 6200 AGP card soon.
Thanks,
Chris
PS - Total spent so far is less than $150, FYI
