The legal situation is grey, not black and white. The EU has separately
opined in the past that consumers should have choice with regards CAMs (the
EU in general being pro-competition).
As far as I'm concerned - as long as I'm paying Sky their full dues, not
viewing channels I'm not paying for and have satisfied my 1 year contract to
have the box plugged into a telephone cable - how I choose to watch my Sky
is my business. I currently pay them £35 per month (including Sports, etc),
and if I were not able to use my CAM, I'd go to a Freeview (OTA) solution as
an alternative, so they'd be £35 WORSE off. I would feel quite confident in
a court of law passing the 'reasonable man' test.
Your biggest risk, imho, is that Sky change their NDS encryption making your
CAM worthless in the future - but by that point Freesat will hopefully have
launched.
Anyhow - the list 'owners' don't like matters of dubious legality being
discussed - so I'll rest my case there, and suggest that it's up to each
person to decide where grey is for them.
