That actually is the open source driver.  As I said it's fine for a basic 
workstation, but you don't get hardware accelerated video playback or 
opengl.  So basically you're using just a small portion of the card's 
capabilities.  And that's the reason why most people don't use ATI cards in 
Linux machines.  It's all about what you need, and for most MythTV users ATI 
doesn't provide what we need.
