For the archives:

At least in my configuration, the FX5200 and Westinghouse 47" NEED the
modeline.  I took it out and restarted and it was back to a normal
"square" resolution.  Anyway, could be the other things I have in there
messing it up.

As for my sparkly things... well I did some more troubleshooting...

at a lower resolution it did not happen, only at 1900xWhatever it is

Turns out one part of the DVI cable was not screwed down really tight.
Once I did that, my problem went away.  Amazing.  It was not even
really loose.
