I'll take a wild stab in the dark on this since you didn't provide any
information about the cards, drivers, or versions of software you're
using.

There have been some changes in the recent ivtv driver (0.9.1) that
causes the ghosts. To fix:

 v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl temporal_filter=0 -d /dev/videoX

where X is the specific video device depending on the card to adjust.

If that doesn't apply to you then you'll have to supply more details.
