[mythtv-users] OT IR receiver Extensions and Furniture.

I was looking at some TV furniture with my wife. Everything she liked
had a solid front, thus completely hiding the mythbox, amplifier, (now
defunct) VCR and CD player. I like the look too, but there is this
problem of getting the remote's IR signal inside to the correct place.

Does anyone know of a method of 'light-piping' an IR signal from the
oustide of a piece of furniture to the correct spot inside.

Would it be possible to feed the signal using, for example a digital
TOSlink, or an LED lightpipe or even strands of optical fibre.

I am thinking that I might be able to get away with a rod like section
of glass, or clear plastic, through the door, but it is unlikely that
the best place for a hole in the door, lines up with a receiver.

Wild ideas always accepted. (But those espousing a radio based remote
might be deprecated as I have not yet seen an acceptable one...)
