John,
   Interesting idea so I went to look but found that maximizing the
window is not a valid option. It's grayed out and there are only two
symbols in the upper right corner - '_' and 'x'. Looking at the window
options menu I see that maximize is grayed out there also.

   I only have Gnome on the system. I'll try setting up a minimal WM
like fluxbox and see what it does.

   I've searched through the setup options for something to fix this
but there doesn't seem to be anything about it. I'm not clear who has
the responsibility to remember window position. Seems like that would
reside in the app but I don't program so I certainly don't know.

   Anyway, thanks for the idea. I appreciate the response.
