I use bacula (www.bacula.org) to backup my systems over the network to a
DLT library.  You should be able to pick these up for a reasonable price
on ebay (though the price of tapes there has gone up recently) - the
35/70 or 40/80 models are the ones to go for.

If you're looking for larger capacity then the price goes through the
roof - you're into the current commercial market then, at 5-10 thousand
UKP for a standalone drive.
