one more thing about yum ( in general ). The default yum configuration
points you to different mirrors. This is generally bad. Figure out what
mirrors are closest to you and manually add those for each .repo file.
comment out the
mirrorlist=http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/fedora-core-$releasever
entry and replace it with:
baseurl=http://<closer-mirror>/core/$releasever/$basearch/os
http://<another-closer-mirror>/core/$releasever/$basearch/os
...
don't rely on the mirror picker to pick something close to you.
It takes a bit of work, but get the list of mirrors, start downloading
a small-ish rpm from each one and see which ones are speedy
and which ones are snail-ish.
I've got two that are close to me, but I don't want to share them
so I won't post their names. ;) I've found that some are really
fast and some are really slow.
Also... as someone said... FC6 has just been released and
people are upgrading / downloading like crazy. All of the
mirrors are slow now.
AND... remember... not all mirrors mirror all content. Some of
them may have dropped FC3 and FC4 when FC6 came out.
Not all mirrors are the same... you have to peek around using
your web browser to make sure that the one you pick has the
files you need.
