What you are talking about is a backup strategy which will allow you  
to recover a lost or damaged system. There are probably as many  
solutions to this problem as there are users, and the subject is  
really too complex to be appropriate here except in the most simple  
terms.

If your system crashes totally you will have to "install everything  
from the beginning" in one way or another. You could image your  
system drive but you would still have real-time stuff like your  
database and the actual videos to deal with as well, and all that  
would probably not fit onto a DVD, or even a Blu-ray disk.

But you do bring up a common problem, and it would be interesting to  
know how users are backing up (or not backing up) their various Myth  
systems.

Any Video I do not want to lose I simply archive to DVD, and I back  
up my database at regular intervals. Other than that I just keep my  
original installation disks around and I guess I would simply start  
over if I had to. A UPS and a redundant (RAID) storage system help to  
delay the inevitable :-)
