The EXT3 file system is acceptable as long as I don't delete while trying to record a program and use the "save old files" after transcoding. I believe that is the term for converting from MythTV format to DivX or another format that takes up less space. Please correct me if I am incorrect on this. There is an option for slow deleting of files and keep files after transcoding that I am encouraged to set in the event I accidentally delete a program while recording another.

A 20G hard drive will do fine for testing purposes, but will only allow
you to record a couple of hours of TV at standard definition. You will
only need about 4 G for the- actual linux install. You can set up a
partition '/video' for the tv recordings.

Once you have your 'proof-of-concept' running you can add as large a
hard drive as you care to purchase to the box, delete the old /video and
create a new mount point on the new hard drive.(I presume that you do
not mind losing the contents of the old store. I suggest BTW that you go
directly to 300G....I have a 120G drive with 95G available for recording
and its too damn small!
