[mythtv-users] Are PVR-500's safe to buy new right now?

Picture quality is fine... better on component than s-video, but fine
nonetheless and besides... it's the output card and TV/monitor that
determines the picture quality... not the tuner except for snow, etc. In
my case I have Cox Digital Cable and the quality in to the tuners is
just fine. As for an amp, I assume you mean for sound? Again, how does
this affect the PVR500??? My audio is running through digital out on my
sound card to an amp, to answer your question, but I've also run it
straight to the audio in on my TV without issue... I just can't make it
as loud.

FWIW your questions make it sound like you haven't used a PVR500 card...
the PVR500 is only a dual tuner (two 150s as other describe it) card...
with multiple input options (coax, s-video, component, etc). My PVR 500
card has little to do with my picture quality and audio as long as the
signal comes in from Cox well... that said, its the video out and TV and
my audio output options that determine the quality more than anything
else...
