[mythtv-users] V-Stream Xpert DVB-T PCI slow tuning and other probs

Hi List,

I have some questions about the V-Stream Xpert DVB-T PCI card that I can't
find answers to on the web.

I have configured the card correctly, unloaded (removed) the cx88-blackbird
drivers, done all the scandvb and tzap procedures and I can watch BBC One
Scotland using mplayer dvb://"BBC ONE Scot" (I am in Scotland). However, the
audio and video are often way out of sync; I get regular "Your system is too
slow to play this" messages from mplayer; and changing channel can take a
*very* long time with some channels. (Although I have noticed that it seems
to be radio stations that mainly take a long time to tune.)

I can't watch channels such as Sky News, either; I get "selected video_out
device is incompatible with this codec" errors.

I have an Athlon 1700+ with 1GB RAM running FC5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5) and CPU
usage sits at about 30% during TV playback.

I am concerned that no matter how much more time I put into configuring the
box I will never resolve these issues. I suppose I have only one question:

Are these issues limitations of the card or can I resolve them using a
different TV viewer such as XaWTV or TVTime?

All I want to do is watch DVB and occasionally record something that I will
miss. If I can make the card work setting up MythTV will be my next goal.

Thanks,

Richard Oxland
