For me, I use the SVN openchrome and update about once a month. I
don't think there is any way to display HDTV over your TV ouputs
(S-Video and Composite) without some sort of on-the-fly transcoding
(using maybe VLC to convert to mpeg4 1024x1024 or smaller).
Basically, they just can't display it, and the system won't
auto-downconvert it; instead it just gives a blank (black) screen.
As for what xvinfo displays, it's not decoding mpeg2 at that point; my
understanding is that it's displaying X output, which can be any
resolution, but when displaying video, the video cannot be mpeg2
larger than 1024x1024 for the TV encoder to display it. I believe you
can display mpeg4 (or other similar codecs) larger than 1024x1024 over
S-Video, but your CPU will not be able to handle it, and you will have
no hardware decoding (using the openchrome drivers).
Your best bet is to check out the openchrome list archives or see what
info they offer on their wiki at openchrome.org and get XvMC working
with Xine displaying HDTV. From there, you can begin the work towards
getting some HDTV working with MythTV using patches/-VID branch.
