I don't think I can say that's the case.

My backend is an Athlon XP 2400+, the hard drive is formatted using XFS
(though I may try another filesystem), and my frontend is an Athlon64 AM2
4200+, running in 64-bit mode.  The frontend and backend are connected
with Gigabit Ethernet, and I'm using the MythTV streaming protocol, and
not NFS.

My inputs are a PVR-500 connected to my analog cable (not a set-top box)
for SD and an HDHomeRun for HD.

My channel changes on SD are about four seconds, and for HD, I'm looking
at ten seconds.  Not that I'm really complaining, because it's not that
big of a deal to me.  When I had a combined backend/frontend it was a
little more than half that time.  I don't channel surf, except in browse
mode.
