[mythtv-users] lirc + PVR150 IR Receiver + Another Remote?

I found some hints around regarding getting another remote to work with
Myth via the PVR-150's IR Receiver, but nothing out there was all that
clear.
In the most basic sense, I am trying to see if it is possible to use my
RCA universal remote that came with our Satellite equipment with the
PVR-150's IR receiver and Myth. Has anyone out there tried this?
I did come across this FAQ on the lirc web site:
> Q: I have a Hauppauge TV card. Can I use a different remote control
> with this TV card except the original Hauppauge remote control?
>
> A: The Hauppauge remote control uses the RC-5 protocol. You should be
> able to use any TV remote control that uses this protocol. Common
> brands that use this protocol are Philips and Marantz.
But I honestly do not know what the right process is for even testing
things. I realize I need to use irrecord, but I am unsure as to the
correct arguments. irrecord -d /dev/lirc doesn't really buy me much
since /dev/lirc is managed by the config file for lircd...
Any pointers/ideas are much appreciated!
