it should accept the 720p signal though (it may convert it to
1080i...), which should fix the interlace flickering.

as long as your HorizSync and VertRefresh values are set to what your
TV will accept then you shouldn't have a problem, any modelines that
are outside this range won't be used.

basically the signal gets accepted by the TV(which is a fault of the
tv's electronics) and it then try's to display the signal, which looks
all messy, the TV emits a high pitch noise, and usually it will cause
the circuitry to over heat and "smoke". Most modern TV's wont' accept
a signal outside their range, older TV's weren't smart enough to.
