[mythtv-users] PVR-250 Odd Behavior

Recently, I finished building a new system with one PVR-250 and two
AirStar HD5000s.
I wanted to try 0.19 from SVN, kernel 2.6.16, and ivtv-0.6.1. MythTV
0.19 is beautiful.

Until now, I hadn't connected anything to the S-Video and Audio inputs
of the brand new,
Model 980 PVR-250. Using the cables currently in use on another
MythTV system, I plugged
them into the new PVR-250. These cables carry the outputs from a 4DTV
receiver.

After going through the mythtv-setup steps to define this new input, I
brought up the
system and started "Watch TV". When I pressed "c" to switch inputs on
the PVR-250,
the picture froze for a second, then continued with the Tuner
video/audio - not the
4DTV signal. Here's part of the log from the moment I hit the "c" key

I stopped the frontend and backend and tried the video capture steps
that are part
of Jarod's Guide. Here are the results from my first try:

  -p 0 . . . Input from the Tuner
  -p 1 . . . Input from the S-Video and Audio
  -p 2 . . . Input from the S-Video and Audio

The result for -p 2 was a surprise - I thought it should have been
black, with no audio.

The next day, tried to repeat the video capture. This time, only -p 0
gave any output,
the expected picture and sound from the Tuner. All other values for
-p are black, no sound.

Does this look like the PVR-250 has failed? It does to me. At first,
I thought there
might be a mismatch between SVN (0.19) and ivtv-0.6.1 because ivtv now
numbers the inputs
differently. But now, since only the Tuner input capture works, I'm
inclined to think
that the PVR-250 has a problem with S-Video and Audio inputs.

I could swap PVR-250 cards with another system, but don't really want
to risk losing the
use of a system I currently depend on for daily recordings. Another
newly bought PVR-250
is what I'll probably try next.

Any of your (even remotely) similar experiences with PVR-x50s would be
of interest.

Thanks.
