I have not heard of this specifically, but I have seen warnings alluding to
the dangers of feeding a monitor/tv with a signal that is outwith its
specifications.

Do you have any documentation for your TV? Something that might give details
of its hardware capabilities?

This is something I am very concerned about as I'll be installing a Myth box
for my brother next weekend.
