Interesting. I watched an episode of Battle Star Galactica in windows
using VLC last night. If you use the medium seek command - I think the
one that seeks about 30 seconds or a minute - then the seeking in mpeg4
is not so bad. It's bearable as it only takes a few seconds to skip
forward so it's still worth it to skip the commecials.
If VLC would seek perfectly like media player classic it would be the
perfect player in windows. If media player classic would just open
640x480 mpeg4 files then it would also be the perfect player (it plays
480x480 files great but not 640x480). Incidentally both programs have
great methods of scaling a "16:9" SD program with black bars up to a
16:9 TV so that it looks like true 16:9. Works great.
Get your remote set up and then it's almost like you were watching
recordings from a mythfrontend. What is nuts is the fact that people
have made it possible to view nuv files in windows so easily. Can't
stream media center's DVR-ms over to Linux that easily.
