Could it be xvmc? I was playing around with that the other day, and came
across a recording ('Lost' pilot episode rerun) that played fine with
the standard decoder, but stopped after a few minutes with xvmc, always
at the same point. I'm guessing there was some corruption in the mpeg
stream that xvmc choked on.
