Finally got mythtv up and running. For Live Tv and recording it
works just swell. I'm impressed!

This is on an AMD K6 400MHz whopper, with a H-350 card, Linux kernel
2.6.16, ivtv 0.6, ivtv_xdriver_src_0.10.6. MythVideo is also
installed. The poor PC is headless and connected to a TV. I use ssh
and vnc to connect. This is my first attempt before a possible
purchase of a mini-ITX system better suited to a living room.

Using MythVideo, I tried playing a DVD ripped avi and the video
worked (perhaps slow?) but the sound is not there. This is as
expected for a slow CPU. Ok, mplayer is probably not setup right.
Found out it may not even be possible to have mplayer use the
hardware decoding capabilities of the 350. (and then I found out
this is being dropped from mythtv,... bummer!)

So I tried boiling it down into a simple problem:
	cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg

followed by:
mplayer -fs -zoom -vo xv test.mpg

The video is there, but in slow mo and there is no sound.

A
	cat test.mpg > /dev/video16
produces the sound just fine.

Are there any mplayer settings folks have used to get the mpeg2
decoder of the H-350 to work? Any other player software?

And if mythtv can do it from the video it captures, is there a way I
can convert the test.mpg (an possibly those DVD avi files) into that
format?

I just started playing around with ffmpeg to convert avi's but I
thought it simpler to do a capture and play routine first.

thanks!

mark
