In frontend settings:
Commercial Flag New Recordings
This is the default value used for the Auto-Commercial Flagging setting
when a new scheduled recording is created.
In mythtv-setup:
Start Auto-Commercial Flagging jobs when the recording starts
If set and Auto Commercial Flagging is ON for a recording, the flagging
job will be started as soon as the recording starts. NOT recommended on
underpowered systems.
and
Allow Commercial Detection jobs
Allow jobs of this type to run on this backend.
and
Commercial Flagger command
The program used to detect commercials in a recording. The default is
'mythcommflag' if this setting is empty.

Must be enabled on the host and on the recording rule... Also, if
mythcommflag isn't in the PATH of the user running mythbackend, make
sure you type the full path for the setting, "Commercial Flagger command".
And, BTW, Nate, please don't reply to existing threads when starting a
new topic. This topic ("Commercial skipping") is buried two topics deep
under the thread, "MythTV Fedora Core 4 Install - Problem at Step 10 in
Jared's Instructions". You replied to that message when starting the
topic, "No playback menu?", then you replied to Robin Hill's message
from that topic when you started this topic. And, Ben Dash replied to
Brad Templeton's message in this topic to start a new topic, "lirc
timeout inactivity?" Therefore, there are four topics buried in one
thread (for which the OP didn't get any responses to his Fedora
question--probably quite disheartening to get new messages in the thread
when all are off-topic).
I normally delete all distro-specific threads (because I don't know
enough to answer questions on them), but I just happened to notice this
thread was a mix of other topics. Had I deleted the thread, I would
have deleted your question and wouldn't have been able to provide the
necessary pointer (to mythtv-setup) to help you find the settings you need.
Most MUA (mail clients) allow you to select an address in an existing
topic and "Compose mail to" (or something to that effect). Doing so
does not bury your question in someone else's thread.
Thanks,
Mike
