I definitely am going nuts... thanks again for the replies.

To bring this thread back into focus, I want to remind you (and anyone else
that happens to be reading along) that I am trying to diagnose why
mythfrontend hangs/crashes when I try to play an MP3/CD (in that order).
When I try to play a CD, mythfrontend crashes. Play an MP3, hang.

Ok, that being said...

I had some luck. I found a flac development package in YUM, and installing
that got me past the "configure" step of the build process (from SVN remind
you). I would recommend, if there is a developer listening, that instead of
the error message saying "FLAC not detected" or somesuch, that it state what
the exact library missing is... I had to read the config file to finally
find out what it was that was missing. So anyways, I tried a "make" and had
an issue with a header file for myth not being found. So I installed
mythtv-devel (through YUM) and got past that, and now I get this error when
trying a make:

'GetMythMainWindow' was not declared in this scope

This looks like a part of the mythbrowser compilation process, by context. I
did a search in the mailer archives through google, and see reference to
needing to run the SVN version of myth... So is it true that if I SVN the
plugins, I need to SVN ALL of myth??

See: http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2006-May/136051.html

And to bring this again back to the main point, I tried another test just
now and yes, mythfrontend hangs when I try to play an MP3. So this is not an
issue with a shared application, there has to be a problem with my
compilation of mythmusic (i think).

So now I am subversioning the entire myth suite just to make sure... more to
come.
