[mythtv-users] Scheduling recordings from a satellite box

   I have my mythv PC connected to a satellite box. The satellite box
outputs its signal on channel 3. I have configured mythtv accordingly,
and I can watch live TV on my mythtv PC without any problems. The
issue is, how to schedule recordings?

  I use the Manage Recordings -> Schedule Recordings -> Program Guide
menu in mythfrontend for this. Sure enough, I can locate the channel
that I want (295, in this case) and schedule a recording. When
mythbackend attempts to start recording it prints out the following:

2006-07-20 13:00:02.394 TVRec(1): Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2006-07-20 13:00:02.422 Channel::GetCurrentChannelNum(295): Failed to
find Channel '295'
2006-07-20 13:00:02.422 Channel(/dev/v4l/video0)::TuneTo(295): Error,
failed to find channel.
2006-07-20 13:00:02.422 TVRec(1) Error: Failed to set channel to 295.
Reverting to kState_None
2006-07-20 13:00:02.422 TVRec(1): Changing from RecordingOnly to None
2006-07-20 13:00:02.425 Finished recording Dragon Tales "Forest of
Darkness": channel 1295
2006-07-20 13:00:02.444 Started recording: Dragon Tales "Forest of
Darkness": channel 1295 on cardid 1, sourceid 1
2006-07-20 13:00:03.446 Reschedule requested for id 0.
2006-07-20 13:00:03.457 Scheduled 3 items in 0.0 = 0.00 match + 0.01 place

Nothing gets recorded. I guess this was to be expected, for the video
signal I am getting comes from the satellite box, tuned on channel 3.

  Does this imply that, when using such a setup, there is no way to
schedule recordings using the Program Guide menu? Well, I guess one
could choose to record from channel 3 at the Program Guide menu, but
that's kind of crude, and it would not necessarily work very well,
because different channels do not run in lockstep - especially pay
ones.

  Is there a way around this? I am aware of approaches to get mythtv
to change channels on the satellite box, but that's not the issue I am
addressing here - I believe that would not help me anyway.
