I've also ran into this same issue with driving a 1080p LCD (the Sceptre
X37SV-Naga) at it's native resolution using the DVI port with the
version 8756 drivers, and I also have the same Chaintech FX5200 video
card.  It worked for me over the VGA port as in your case.  Adding this
option in the nvidia Device section made it work over DVI with the 8756
drivers for me:

Option "ModeValidation" "NoMaxPClkCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck"

And I use the following modeline:

ModeLine "1920x1080p" 148.500 1920 2024 2072 2200 1080 1084 1094 1124 -hsync -vsync

All seems well in my setup, the X desktop and MythTV gui is in 1920x1080
and HD content looks good.  The video card is connected to the LCD with
a DVI->HDMI cable.
