The ALSA config file on that page was broken.  I just updated it (and 
included much more verbose comments explaining how to use it), so please 
try again.  Also, if it doesn't work "out of the box", read 
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/DigitalSoundHowTo#Setting_up_ALSA.27s_.asoundrc.2C_Properly 
and the comments in the new, updated ALSA config file to verify that 
devices are appropriate for your card and that you're using it correctly.
