The audio is directed toward OSS (/dev/dsp) rather than ALSA
(ALSA:default) in your log.

So, you are depending on the ALSA OSS emulation if OSS is not running.
But, if you are sure that ALSA is running fine (see the utilities that I
suggested before to really make sure) then I would change your setting
(in mythfrontend>>setup) to ALSA:default and start from there.

You could also look at your mixer settings before you start mythtv to
make sure the volumes are up. You can use alsamixer to check. If all is
cool, use alsactl to store the settings. On FC4: /usr/bin/alsactl store 
(you can restore if you need to by: /usr/bin/alsactl restore)

You didn't mention (or I didn't see) your distro.
