dsmyth is more than just nupplevideo plugins -- it also lets windows
apps stream the data directly from each backend in a network setup --
remember, the mythweb machine does not necessarily even HOST the file in
question.

Anyway, this relates to the other issue.  Since Drew has said that
myth:// appears regardless of the OS, and that it's *vlc* complaining
about it, not the browser, there is most likely a problem with
mythstreamtv and mythtv's own URI format, which does use myth:// to
refer to recordings that may be stored on other backends, as a proper
URI should, rather than passing separate data fields for host, port,
path, etc.
