[mythtv-users] Mythtv vers 0.18.1.20050523-1 Mythfrontend, gives Unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION

It is a fresh install of core 4 so the only thing that is old is the database.  I used yum to do an install of myth-suite from the atrpms repository.  The versions of frontend and back end are exactly the same :

$ mythbackend --version
0.18.1.20050523-1

$ mythfrontend --version
0.18.1.20050523-1


One strange thing is that the master backend starts up as a slave.  I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or not.  I turned on all the debugging that I know about and everything looks fine so I'm stuck.

Any help would be appreciated
