Thanks John.  I checked /var/log/messages and sure
enough, there is a problem with ivtv_init_mpeg.bin. 
"yum list" tells me I have ivtv 0.4 and xdriver
0.10.6-3 installed (output below).  I tried running
the dd command and still get the same results.

I checked the filesystem and see ivtv_init_mpeg.bin in
/lib/modules, although the dates of the other ivtv
files look suspiciously old.  Is there anything else
that I can try?
