[mythtv-users] Slightly OT - Hollywood after the Analog

Without trying to sound like a lunatic conspiracy theorist, I think  
the whole Hollywood fear of pushing legislation in order to protect  
their media is a smaller concern for them but one they feel can be  
sold to the general public in the form of "protecting the artist".   
The reality of manufacturing hardware with aggressive DRM is that we  
lose the ability to be in control of the how the technology is being  
used and ultimately have no control of what is being presented in the  
media.  I feel very strongly that efforts such as mythtv play a vital  
role in maintaining our freedom of speech.  I know that bittorrent is  
a sensitive subject on this list which I respect.  I have no desire  
for pirated media or to even remotely associate mythtv with the  
crime.  However, I do believe that these technologies will provide a  
method for communication throughout our population.

Just as blogging has applied pressure to corporate news sources for  
more thorough reporting, I think a form of video blogging from within  
mythtv can provide a way for artists and individuals to report on  
events in their community that the mainstream media would never  
cover.  There is no way for me to get a story onto CNN, MSNBC, or FOX  
news but in a matter of moments I can become a broadcaster from my  
own home as long as the rights are protected and we prevent the  
legislation of hardware DRM.  We need to keep the communication  
technology financially and practically within our reach so we aren't  
left with a system that only allows for us to receive media and  
messages sanctioned by government or corporations.

But I would like to know peoples' thoughts on providing myth with a  
video-blog type of interface where "LEGAL" streams can be browsed and  
published.
