I'll bet you it is. I noticed the audio more than the video.

It might be. Try disabling XvMC, that's what got rid of it for me. Of 
course my CPU usage is high now, but at least there is no stuttering. I 
saw a post recently that mentioned 2.6.9 as being a good kernel.
