For the old nova-t (phillips chipset), the remote control is part of the
kernel dvb driver, and has been for some time. You don't need lirc at
all, the remote events turn up as keypresses in the same way as a normal
keyboard.
The only thing you would want to do is patch the driver to change the
key mapping to be more myth friendly. Search the archives for the grey
remote patch.
