Here's all the audio configs from my xine config file:
audio.driver:alsa
audio.device.alsa_front_device:default
audio.output.speaker_arrangement:Pass Through
Here's the xine version.
myth at myth ~ $ xine -v
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.3.

I'm using kernel 2.6.9 with some gentoo patches - nothing which
touches ALSA afaik.
cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.6 (Sun Aug 15
07:17:53 2004 UTC).

cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - Sound Blaster Live!
Sound Blaster Live! (rev.8) at 0xc000, irq 5

It's the standard 1.0.6 alsa with the single line patch from 1.0.7 for
AC3 to work on the SB Live.

Your codec97 dump is the same as mine.

Have you tried going back to 1.0.5 or 1.0.7 ALSA module/tools/lib versions?

It could be another alsa issue...

I'm feeding a Yamaha DD/DTS amp with only the spdif hooked up - no
analog cabling at all. It works fine for me.

What's your .asoundrc setup? I'm using the one from Jarod's guide pages.
