Well, for me the problem has occured on a variety of kernels: some of
the more recent gentoo-dev-sources, and nitro-sources, versions
2.6.8-2.6.10rc1. And, I know that at least the latest nitro sources
didn't contain any i2c related stuff, and I compiled the lirc outside
the kernel. So, I'd bet the problem occurs in the vanilla kernel from
www.kernel.org as well.
