press the buttons in a terminal window (abc...).  You should see ascii 
characters coming out.  I have recomiled the module so I can redefine 
the keys to what I like.  I am using Mandrake 10.1 but have played with 
ati_remote in fc2.

I used to have a x map the keys but that screwed to many things up.

If you download the source makefile (from http://gatos.sf.net) cp the 
ati_remote.c file from your source to ati_remote_26.c(I think it it 
underscore...look at the make file)

compile with that then copy the .ko file to ati_remote.ko in the right 
place and you have remapped the keys.
