Sorry, have not tried to transcode...

Out of curiosity, how well does your machine playback HDTV if you disable
XvMC?  On my 2.8 GHz HT P4, I get MUCH smoother playback with XvMC
disabled.  I would think that an Athlon 3000 would be powerful enough to
see the same affect.
