If you use the "Start Early/End Late" option on the Advanced Recording 
screen, it only affects that recording.  If you want all shows to start 
early/end late, go into Setup->TV and use the global pre- and 
post-roll.  The global pre/post-roll option will *not* take effect if 2 
recordings are scheduled back-to-back, though.

Search the list archives for "pre-roll"; there has been a lot of 
discussion on the subtle differences between these 2 features.
