[mythtv-users] Poor sound cmipci (CM8737)

Hello Folks,

I know there's been some posts about this but wanted to check something...

I get *really* poor quality audio using the CM8738 onboard sound with Myth
(ALSA driver), looking at previous posts the general feeling seemed to be
that it can only do 8-bit quality when in duplex so its never going to be
great... looking at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/doc/cmi8738_6ch_datasheet.pdf
though, it says it has...

"16-bit full duplex CODEX"

Not sure if that means it should be able to do 16-bit or not? My symptoms
are very low volume with allot of hiss/squeaky background noise.

So probably some silly questions but;

1. Has anyone got decent sound quality out of this?

2. If I use s/pdif out, will I get the same problems?

Cheers
