When I started up my system and tried it again last night, everything
worked, yet I hadn't changed a thing since the day before.  All I can
imagine is that some system service either hadn't been started or hadn't
updated/initialized properly.  Anyway, the .nuv files are being written
properly and it's recording and playing back without a single problem
now.
