Hi
I currently have a running backend server, its running Knoppix Myth -
but it's having huge stability problems. So I'm going to restart it
from scratch using Fedora Core 2. I need a 2.6 Kernel as I have DVB
cards. It's running on an A7N8X Deluxe with AMD 2400, 1 GB of Ram, and
an Nvidia 5200 and 250 GB HDD. It's got two VisionPlus Digital TV cards.
I've been poring over Jarod's install guide, and just wanted to check
that I have covered off all my install steps before proceeding.
The box will only be a backend server as I have an xBox doing the
frontend.
Any comments or omissions welcome.
Thanks
-------------------------------------
1 - Install FC2 with packages:
X Windows System
KDE Desktop
SQL Server
Web server
Windows File server
VNC Server
2 - Partition according to Jarod's guide.
3 - Create user MythTV and enable NTP
4 - FC2 has the forcedeth driver built-in
5 - Should I load the NVIDIA system drivers ??
6 - Get and install apt (it will make my life easier :) )
7 - Get the latest ATrpms kernel - edit grub
8 - Install the latest NVIDIA video drivers. Do I need this if it's
only a backend machine that won't be running X fulltime?
9 - Get and install ALSA and get two sound cards configured
10 - Make sure /etc/modules.conf has the cards in it, and they are
detected ok.
11 - Test the installation up to this point with XawTV.
12 - Sit back feeling smug about having got this far...
13 - Get and install MythTV
14 - Upgrade to the bleeding edge bttv driver
15 - Setup SQL to run at boottime and configure and create the database
16 - Setup MythTV, create XMLTV file and grabber (for Australia)
17 - Set mythbackend to start at boot time and start the service
18 - Change inittab to start in runlevel 3 - don't need to run X ??
19 - Format /video partition to XFS - check that HDD DMA is enabled
20 - Allow remote connections to the SQL database from the frontend
machine
21 - Sit back with huge grin on face and thank the gods for Jarods guide
:)
