Like I said, there are cases where it's not doable... in my experience 
it's rare to find a shop that won't allow POP or IMAP access to their 
Exchange server.

In any event, I only use my work email for work-related things.  I don't 
like to have my personal communications passing through my employer's 
mail server, for myriad reasons.
