[mythtv-users] Exclusive locking of /dev/video ?

Hi,

I have issues with recordings that switch channels in between. 

As I'm using nxtvepg as a xmltv source, I want nxtvepg to change channels when 
no mythtv recording takes place. Nxtvepg can detect when other tv software 
(like xawtv and xawdecode) is running and refrain from switching channels for 
EPG aquisition. As my C/C++ skills are next to nonexistant, I could not find 
out how this is done.

I was even able to start xawtv while mythbackend is recording and switch 
channels there. I got no image displayed because mythtv eats the data, but 
tuner frequency was still changed.

Unfortunately this is not a mythtv issue and can be caused with 2 xawdecode 
instances on different X displays. 

Is this a v4l[12] API bug? How can I (or the program authors) prevent this?
