First off, make sure you have some of the latest Nvidia drivers installed - I know the 4496 and 5328 drivers work fine with XvMC.  If that is in correctly, try to play one of the streams you've recorder via mplayer * myplayer -vc ffmpeg12mc -vo xvmc file.mpeg .  You should see a quick blue flash at the start of the stream, that's what I get at least.

If you have compiled in XvMC support correctly, the OSD will be gray instead of blue.  Also, I would recommend using the Myth CVS version if you want to do XvMC stuff - it's a lot better than what is out in 0.13.
