Oh, right.  First, my disclaimer - I don't really know how all this 
works, but it seems to work for me.

I think you need to stop running irxevent and use Myth native lirc.  My 
guess is that each button press is getting handled by xine, but also by 
irxevent, which is sending a spurious X-event to xine.

Jarod's Guide (http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/) has this documented in 
section 12.  You basically get his Hauppauge-grey file and put it in 
~/.mythtv/lircrc and stop running irxevent.  In my ~/.lircrc file, I 
only have the xine settings.

If it helps, I'm running Myth 0.13, and I think I'm using just the 
standard xine start parameters:
   xine -pfhq --auto-scan dvd
