It always helps to provide as much information as possible.  I
assume that you loaded lirc_dev and lirc_serial with the proper
parameters for COM2 before starting the daemon, right?  Also,
what version of lirc are you running (0.7.0pre1 or 0.7.0pre2 are
preferred)?  Are you getting any messages in /etc/syslog or in
/etc/messages?  You may also want to provide your modules.conf
file (Fedora uses modules.conf, right?).

Post again with more info and I'm sure someone here can point
you in the right direction (might even be me).
