In fact you can patch mplayer with both and switch
back and forth if you want... 

I couldn't get the mpegpes patch to work for me under
Myth .14 with the 0.1.9 ivtv drivers, but I also
didn't try very hard.  Both compiled fine for me..(you
need zlib-devel)

As Torsten mentioned just a little while ago, the real
solution is going to be the YUV support.  Once that's
implemented, DVD, games, and everything else will work
great (assuming you have enough CPU power)...
