As another person pointed out, perhaps the way to think of this is, "How
much would you pay if (when) Zap2It's listings are no longer available?"
Sure, nobody wants to pay when you can get it free, but it's only a matter
of time before Zap2It either starts charging or goes out of business, or
finds some other way to block automated listings retreival like XMLTV
does. Personally, I don't find TiVo's monthly fee that high (a little
pricey, perhaps, but not insanely expensive), I just prefer the
flexibility and privacy of using something like Myth. I can burn DVDs of
recordings, edit out commercials, etc, without someone logging every
keypress. That's worth more to me than saving a few bucks a month on
program listings. If TiVo offered everything Myth offers, and had an
ironclad privacy policy, I would never have spent all those hours building
my Myth setup.

Just comment out entries in the listing file in the .xmltv directory of
the user that runs mythfilldatabase. I do this, and it never fetches
listings for crap like the home shopping channels, and I never see them on
the guide.
