[mythtv-users] references to "significant other"

I think half the point of this (any many other) lists is to resolve
issues that come up BECAUSE of the fact we live with "technically
illiterate" significant others. My significant other, while not
completely, is largely illiterate when it comes to technology. This is
not because of a lack of intelligence, rather, has no interest in the
inner-workings of technology. It simply needs to work.

If I had my way, I'd be using a wired keyboard and mouse and several
workstations on my coffee table. I'd be running xine straight from X,
and a 2k crontab would be scheduling all of my recordings. Because this
is not user-friendly to the technically challenged, it is unacceptable.
It is because of that we have GUIs and software like MythTV. It is why
we have TiVo with a simple thumb up/down system. These pieces of
technology enable the largely technically illiterate population to
benefit from the same functionality. Illiterate does not always equal
unintelligence, however we still live with our significant others. To
keep the balance of give-and-take that we maintain, I can implement such
a system in my household, so long as it meets or improves our daily
lifestyle. Adding a PVR that complicates what should be a relaxing
experience, no matter how you've experienced in the past, I feel, is
more insulting than calling my significant other technically illiterate.

My significant OTHERS in the household applaud my love of technology.
They live amongst it as we all do, with varying levels of intelligence.
"The wife" being a different and inferior species is exaggerated. They
simply have different loves, passions and interests. Just because ours
is technology does not mean ours is all.

i was saying two things

stop using your wife/girlfriend/partner to represent somebody who is
technically illiterate. it is not necessary and in my opinion insulting.

if myth's UI is broken or hard to use or generally not of sufficient
quality/robustness or is just plainly user unfriendly then say so and we
can work to fix it. don't invoke "she who must be obeyed" (as you put
it) as a reason.

the two sort of got confused in my email and for wich i apologise.
